About Me
In a nutshell...a 'Social Nerd'
Medical Device developer with Entrepreneurial Experience
Over 10 years MedTech entrepreneurship
With a background in Industrial Design Engineering (Delft University of Technology), I co-founded the MedTech scale-up NightBalance in 2009 to develop a new therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
In the role of CTO (and later Technical Director) I experienced the amazing ‘rollercoaster ride’ of starting up a company, alternating between sleepless nights and being totally over the moon with another achievement. After almost 10 years, NightBalance was acquired by Philips in May 2018.
With a desire to share my skills, know-how and experience with others I am now supporting multiple MedTech start-ups and scale-ups. On the one hand by actively investing in early-stage MedTech startups through the Blue Sparrows MedTech Fund and on the other hand by providing consultancy services through MedTech Companion, supporting them with medical product development, quality management and certification.
The title of ‘social nerd’ has been used by others to characterize me and I would (indeed) describe myself as a (social) team player and a jack of many (not all) trades, including industrial product design/engineering, CAD modelling and (photo-realistic) rendering, technical and architectural drawing, graphic design, web design and photography.
